Mid Murray Support Service: Staying Prepared for Summer!
As the days grow longer and temperatures start to rise, we're getting ready for another hot and dry Australian summer. With that in mind, we want to remind everyone to prepare for heat waves, watch out for reptilian visitors who tend to be more active in warmer months and stay vigilant against dehydration.
Signs and Symptoms of Dehydration
Dehydration can creep up quickly during extreme heat. Be on the lookout for these common symptoms:
Thirst and dry mouth
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Fatigue
Dark yellow urine
Confusion or disorientation
It’s important to drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty, and try to avoid being outdoors during the hottest part of the day. We’ll be focusing on hydration as part of our care services to ensure our clients stay safe this season.
In other exciting news, we’re thrilled to introduce the newest member of our vehicle fleet –VANessa, our brand-new bus! VANessa has already been a big hit, providing even more comfort for our clients during trips and outings. She joins the rest of our newly upgraded fleet, which now features custom stickers on the doors for easy identification, making it simpler than ever to spot our vehicles in the community.
Speaking of service, September 2024 was our largest month to date, with a total of 2,190 services delivered! This milestone wouldn't have been possible without our dedicated staff and volunteers, who continue to make a positive impact every day.
Christmas Closure Period
As we head toward the holiday season, we’d like to remind everyone that the Mid Murray Support Service office will close from 12pm on Friday, December 20, 2024, and will reopen to the public on Monday, January 13, 2025. Please make sure to plan ahead for any services you may need during this period. Our dedicated Support Team will still be out in the community providing care where it is needed.
Our activities have been busier than ever, and we’ll be taking a break in January to recharge. If you have an idea for an activity you’d love to see in the future, please let us know, and we’ll explore whether we can accommodate it within our funding.
Tip and Giggle
Tip:
Want to save on water bills this summer? Try placing a bucket in your shower to catch excess water while it heats up. You can then use that water for your garden or cleaning purposes – every little bit helps!
Giggle:
Why do we never tell secrets on a farm?
Because the potatoes have eyes, and the corn has ears! 🌽👀
