Mid Murray Support Service Reflects on a Year of Resilience and Community Support

As we approach the end of the year, Mid Murray Support Service (MMSS) takes a moment to reflect on the challenges and triumphs of the past year. Despite facing adversity, we have emerged stronger, thanks to our community's unwavering support and our volunteers’ dedication.

One of the significant milestones for MMSS was the reopening of Scrooges in early August after enduring the challenges brought by the flood. This marked a turning point for us, symbolising resilience and the ability to overcome adversity. We are immensely proud of our team's efforts during this time.

Regarding our outreach efforts for the month of October, our statistics speak volumes about the dedication of our workers. For October 2023, we covered vast distances, travelling 15,466 kilometres to transport clients. The commitment of our team resulted in the delivery of 284 hours of Domestic Assistance and 98 hours of Home Maintenance. Additionally, we provided close to 300 meals, including those for lunches and various activities.

As we approach the festive season, MMSS extends warm wishes to everyone for a safe, happy, and wonderful time. However, it's important to note that, as our tradition, The HUB will not deliver group activities during January. Keep an eye out for our 'What's on at The HUB' calendar for dates and information on our closing dates. In case of emergencies, our duty phone will be available.

Scrooges, too, will have specific closing dates, with the possibility of occasional closures due to extreme heat. Information regarding closures will be communicated through our Facebook page and posted on the door at Scrooges.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to all our supporters throughout the year. Your donations of items for Emergency Relief and to Scrooges have been instrumental in helping MMSS get back on track after the flood. Cash donations have enabled us to continue the vital community work we do. Your support, whether big or small, has significantly impacted us, and we are sincerely thankful.

A special thanks goes out to our invaluable volunteers. From cleaning and transporting clients to gardening and visiting those who are isolated, your time and efforts have not gone unnoticed. MMSS and our community are truly grateful for the difference you have made.

Looking ahead to 2024, MMSS is excited to announce several new developments and activities. We anticipate a year filled with growth and enhanced community engagement. Thank you for being a part of our journey, and we look forward to seeing everyone in the coming year.

Looking ahead to 2024, exciting events are on the horizon for Mid Murray Support Service (MMSS). The famous "Bend and Stretch with Zak" program is set to commence again on the 8th of January, offering a rejuvenating start to the new year. As we eagerly anticipate the upcoming Social Group Activities, please stay tuned for announcements as all other events are to be confirmed.

As we bid farewell to 2023, MMSS has a vibrant line-up of events for December. Join us on the 12th for Crafternoon, where we'll craft delightful Sock Gnomes for the festive season. The Christmas Hub Lunch at Mannum Community Club on the 21st promises to be a heart-warming gathering. Additionally, mark your calendars for the 5th of December for a Bus Trip, Shop till you Drop at Tea Tree Plaza, and immerse yourself in Play with Clay on the 20th.

Closing out the year with joyous celebrations, our final events in 2023 include Bend and Stretch on the 18th of December and Fun with Friends on the 14th. We look forward to welcoming everyone to these events and making lasting memories as we transition into a new and exciting year.

A tip to save in the supermarket - An increasing number of retailers now offer refillable products, offering both cost savings and a reduction in environmental waste. According to research conducted by Choice, opting for refillable items can result in an average savings of 32%, compared to purchasing another pre-filled dispenser.

As the year winds down, take a moment to appreciate the small joys and achievements. Laughter is the best medicine, so share a giggle with someone today!
