September @ MMSS

It's been one whirlwind of a month here at Mid Murray Support Service (MMSS)! We're excited to share that Scrooges Country Treasures is back in action and going stronger than ever since reopening. We can't help but feel incredibly thankful for the amazing support and the incredible community spirit we've been lucky enough to experience. To all our fantastic folks out there, your support has been nothing short of awesome, and we couldn't have done it without you. So, from all of us at MMSS, a big, "Thank You" for keeping the good vibes rolling!

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Di Foxy of Adare Uniting Church in Victor Harbour for their incredibly generous donation of food, personal items, and blankets for emergency relief. These donations, which are not associated with Food Bank or AC Care, have already made a significant impact. We wasted no time in dividing and distributing these packs to community members in need, providing crucial assistance and comfort during challenging times. Your kindness and support are truly appreciated and have made a tangible difference in the lives of our community members. Thank you for your compassion and generosity!

Right in the heart of our community, Scrooges Country Treasures, our awesome social enterprise, has been doing some incredible work providing essential services. But here's the thing: we really need some committed volunteers to keep the good vibes going. We're all about making a positive impact, and we're on the lookout for folks who share our enthusiasm. So, if you're up for lending a hand, you'll have the chance to be part of our mission to help those who need it and create a friendly, welcoming space for everyone. Your dedication could be the key to ensuring that Scrooges Country Treasures keeps on rocking in our community. If you're interested, don't hesitate to reach out to our manager, Leonie, at 08 8569 1892. She'd love to chat with you about how you can become part of this awesome journey towards a brighter future together!

Another way you can lend a helping hand to Scrooges Country Treasures is by assisting us with a much-needed addition to our staff room – a fridge! As we continue our mission to provide essential services, having a reliable fridge for our hardworking team would be a game-changer. If anyone in our generous community has a spare fridge they'd be willing to donate, we'd be incredibly grateful. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, can make a significant difference in ensuring our staff can have a comfortable and convenient space to recharge during their shifts. If you have a fridge to spare or know someone who does, please reach out to us; your support will be greatly appreciated!

We're doubling the fun with our Bend and Stretch sessions! These invigorating gatherings offer a mix of gentle exercises, including chair-based routines, guided by a certified instructor. We've got two convenient times to choose from on Mondays: the first session begins at 11:15 am, followed by another at 12:30 pm. It's an ideal program for those aiming to improve balance, strength, and mobility while boosting their confidence to reduce the risk of falls. Get ready to stretch, flex, and boost your fitness with us!

Our Crafternoon project in September was all about making sure our local feathered friends are well-fed in the fanciest way possible! We got creative by using old cups, saucers, chains, loops, and sparkly crystals to put together some seriously pretty bird feeders. It was a bit tricky getting all the pieces to fit just right and hang properly, but it's safe to say this project became a big hit. Everyone got to take home a completed bird feeder, complete with birdseed. But before we called it a day, we kicked back and enjoyed a relaxing Afternoon Tea, featuring Sandy's famous Rocky Road. We'd love to have you join us, but keep in mind that spots are limited. To get all the details and reserve your spot, just give The HUB a call at 8569 1832.

In September, our Mystery Bus Trip took us to a wonderful destination – the Laratinga Wetlands in Mount Barker. There, under the warm sunshine, some of us enjoyed a leisurely chat over a steaming cup of tea, while others opted for a peaceful stroll around the lakes, immersing themselves in the tranquillity and the abundant birdlife that these beautiful Wetlands offer. After satisfying our nature cravings, we hopped back on the bus for a short ride to Fasta Pasta. At this delightful eatery, we all indulged in a scrumptious lunch that left us feeling fully satisfied and content as we headed back to The HUB. Our Mystery Bus Trips are a regular treat, happening on the first Tuesday of each month. Remember that booking ahead is a must, so don't forget to contact The HUB at 8569 1832 for more details or to secure your spot.

In September we introduced a cool new craft activity at MMSS called "Play with Clay”. It was a blast! Folks got to unleash their creative side by moulding and shaping clay into all sorts of cool stuff. Now, we're curious to know what you think. Did you have a good time with "Play with Clay"? Want to see it happen again? Your input matters, so give us your thoughts, and together, we can keep the creative vibes rolling at MMSS!

Of course, we're always open to new and exciting ideas for social group activities here at MMSS. We want to ensure our community spaces are vibrant and engaging for everyone. As we mentioned in last month's article, we have some exciting Community Neighbourhood Development funding to support these initiatives. So, if you have any unique ideas or suggestions for group activities that you'd like us to consider, please don't hesitate to share them with us. Your input is incredibly valuable, and it helps us tailor our programs to better meet the interests and needs of our community members. Let's work together to make MMSS a hub of enjoyable and fulfilling social activities for all!
